1.  Where are you located?

We are conveniently located at 244 Herricks Rd, Mineola, NY, just 2 blocks south of Jericho Turnpike.  We are only minutes off the LIE and Northern State Parkway and within 3 miles of several LIRR stations.  Please go to our Contact Us page for detailed directions.

2. How much does it cost for boarding?

Cost depends on the size of your dog or cat, services desired and length of stay.  Please direct your attention to our Rates page for more information.

3.  When can i make a reservation?

As far ahead as possible.  While we have lots of room, we do book up quickly.  Of course, you can always call and check  availability last minute as well.

4.  What are your vaccination requirements?

Dogs must be current on their Bordetella (kennel cough), DHLPP, and Rabies vaccinations.  Cats must be current on their Rabies, FVRCP, & FELV vaccinations.  If you need assistance in getting your pet vaccinated, Garden City Veterinary Care, our associate facility will be happy to help you.  They can be reached at 516.742.0606 and are conveniently located in the same building as Best In Show Pet Resort.

5.  What if my pet becomes ill or gets hurt while I'm away?

In the event of an emergency, we will attempt to contact you and your preferred veterinarian.  In the event of a true emergency, we will not delay life-saving treatment.  Our associate facility, Garden City Veterinary Care will provide emergency treatment.  If necessary, we will transport your pet to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital.

6. Will you administer medications during my pets stay?

Yes, if your pet is enrolled in our Individualized Care Program.  Registration in ICP must be done at the time of booking.  Additional fees apply.

7.   What are your hours?

We are staffed 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days per year.  Regular business hours are Monday 7am -6pm, Saturday 8am - 5pm, and Sunday 9am - 2pm.  Special accommodations can be made with advanced notice.

8.  Is pet transportation available?

Yes!  We will send our Pet Taxi to your home for pick-up or return of your pet.  Please see our Rates page for more information.

9.  My Veterinarian says my dog only needs the Bordatella vaccine once a year.  Why does your facility require it twice a year?

Bordatella (kennel cough) is a highly contagious airbourne infection similar to the common cold that children pick up at human daycare.  Much like the human flu vaccine, no vaccine is 100% effective as new strains of Bordatella continually develop and some dogs are more susceptible to this infection than others.  Best In Show Pet Resort takes all possible precautions to eliminate the possible spread of this infection in our facility.  We monitor and maintain proper ventilation at all times and follow a rigorous cleaning schedule.  Since there is current debate about how long the vaccine will protect your dog, we require it twice a year to ensure there are no outbreaks at our facility.

10.  Why do you recommend an exit bath?

Unlike home, at Best In Show Pet Resort your pets share exercise and common areas with others.  Our resort is fully disinfected multiple times daily; however, no matter how clean our facility, interaction with outer pets will alter your pet's natural scent.  Due to these factors, we offer discounted bathing services to all of our overnight guests and highly recommend that they be bathed before going home.

11.  Can my pet get fleas from other animals during their stay at Best In Show Pet Resort?

We take flea and tick prevention very seriously.  Every animal is treated with CAPSTAR flea prevention immediately upon check-in.  This helps to ensure no flea or tick infestation can occur at our facility.  If we find fleas on any animal, they will be given a mandatory flea bath immediately.  The charge for this bath is a minimum of $35.  Repeat offenders will be denied services.  We highly recommend that all animals have routine, ongoing flea and tick prevention.  Our associate facility, Garden City Veterinary Care, can assist you with this process.

12.  Does your facility have outdoor play areas?

No.  Outside areas cannot be disinfected and controlled the way indoor facilities can.  Elimination is taken care of in our specially designed indoor doggie potty.  Escapes are almost impossible as dogs are played with and walked indoors.  We find that dogs love to walk around our facility and see the sights.

13.  My dog is older.  I would like him to get some play time but he may tire more quickly than younger dogs.  What accommodations are available for him?

Your pet is constantly assessed by our trained staff.  If they seem tired of playing, they will be escorted back to their suite so that they can rest.  Conversely, if your dog seems happier in playtime, then we'll leave them in the playgroup a little longer.

14.  My dog hasn't socialized that much.  Will she enjoy being in a large group?

Dogs are descendants of wolves and are pack animals by nature.  When in a group, they will instinctively find their place in the pack.  This can be an ongoing process but they usually find pack members of the same rank and play with them.  It can take a few days for them to feel completely comfortable but you'd be amazed at how a shy dog will blossom into a more playful one!  Our staff is trained to curtail any unwanted aggression.  Also, dogs are separated into one of our three playgroup areas based on size and temperament.  Your dog will never be put into a group where it would be outsized by everyone else.

15.  Is daycare safe?  Could my dog get bitten by another dog?

When dogs play, they use their paws and mouths and their play can sometimes mimic wrestling or fighting.  In rare instances, play goes too far and a dog can get bitten or scratched.  It's a lot like a playground full of children.  Occasionally kids who play hard end up with cuts or bruises.  Rest assured that our trained staff monitor the dogs at all times and take their safety very seriously.  We take all precautions to avoid any occurrence of injury.

16.  I have multiple dogs and cats.  Can they share a suite?

Dogs from the same family may share a suite.  Best In Show Pet Resort will assess your animals size and temperament and place them in an appropriate-sized suite.  The rate for the second dog will be discounted at 25%; a third dog will be discounted at 50%.  Maximum discount is 50% off.  Up to 3 cats are able to share a kitty condo comfortably.  The rate for a second cat will be discounted at 25%; a third cat will be discounted at 50%.  Maximum discount is 50% off.

17.  Can my pet bring their own food?

Yes, but it must be separated into individual bags by meal and marked with the date.  An additional charge of $2 per day applies.

18.  How many times a day will my pet be fed?

Your pet will be fed once per day.  If your pet needs an additional feeding, please let us know in advance and we will provide it at no additional charge.
